During a successful career spanning over 50 years David has contributed to the work of many Employer Associations, Professional Bodies, Tourist Boards, Government Agencies and the Media to raise standards of education and training across the hospitality and tourism industry – achievements recognised in 1998 when he was made an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours.
David has devised and managed a number of skill competitions and award schemes for the hospitality industry. These have included the ‘Young Chef and Waiter of the Year’; ‘Hospitality World Skills’; the ‘Hospitality Apprenticeship Awards’ and ‘Business Excellence Awards’. For over 35 years he has managed the ‘Roux Scholarship’ for Michel and Albert Roux, and in 2012 helped found, and became organiser of, ‘The Gold Service Scholarship’, with Her Majesty the Queen becoming its first Patron. David is now Secretary to the Trustees of The Gold Service Foundation.
As an Ambassador for Tourism for All David is looking forward to helping make access to travel and accommodation much better, and more widely available, to those with disabilities.
